27 October, 2026 – Chattogram, Bangladesh: The partially decomposed body of Jitu Chowdhury, a 30-year-old Hindu man who had been missing since October 22, was recovered from the Karnaphuli River by Sadarghat River Police on Sunday afternoon.
Jitu was the son of Parimal Chowdhury and Lovely Chowdhury, residents of Gosaildanga in the South Pathantuli area under Ward No. 28 of Double Mooring Police Station in Chattogram city.
According to family members, Jitu went out of his home on October 22 and had not returned since. Following his disappearance, his family filed a general diary (GD) with the police.
Sources indicated that Jitu had reportedly faced a humiliating situation on the day he went missing in connection with a debt-related dispute. However, it remains unclear whether the incident was connected to his death.
Sub-Inspector Mozammel Hossain of Sadarghat River Police said officers went to the scene after receiving information about a body floating in the river. Police conducted an initial inquest and recovered the body.
The body was subsequently sent to the morgue at Chattogram Medical College Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Police said necessary legal procedures were underway.
