12 October, 2026 – Sylhet:- A 35-year-old Hindu employee of Sylhet City Corporation was allegedly stabbed to death after confronting a young man who was reportedly taking photographs of his wife without her consent.
The incident occurred on Sunday night in the Kastghar area near the Sweeper Colony in Sylhet city. The victim, Hridoy Kumar Harijan, worked as a sanitation worker for Sylhet City Corporation and was the father of four children.
According to eyewitnesses and the victim’s family, a local man identified as Amin was allegedly taking inappropriate photographs of Hridoy’s wife, Pinky Rani, in the Kastghar area. When Hridoy objected, an argument and physical altercation reportedly broke out between the two.
Amin allegedly contacted his associates by mobile phone and called them to the scene. Hridoy was then repeatedly stabbed by the group and died at the scene, according to the accounts provided.
Hridoy’s younger brother, Ajay Kumar Harijan, alleged that the attackers killed his brother in broad daylight with sharp weapons simply because he had objected to the photographing of his sister-in-law.
Hridoy’s body was cremated on Monday afternoon following an autopsy.
Khan Md. Mainul Zakir, officer-in-charge of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station, said on Monday evening that multiple police teams were conducting operations to identify and arrest Amin, the principal accused, and his alleged associates.
The investigation and the allegations against the suspects remain ongoing.
