A woman was found dead several hours after a fire broke out at her home in Bangladesh, with her family alleging that she may have been murdered before or during the incident. According to relatives, the victim spoke with her family at around 8:30pm the previous evening, and everything appeared to be normal.
In the early hours of the morning, neighbours noticed smoke coming from the house at around 3:00am. They alerted nearby residents, who rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire. However, the woman was nowhere to be found, and her mobile phone had been switched off. A family member said he received a call at around 3:30am informing him that the house had caught fire but that his mother could not be located.
“We searched everywhere, but she was missing. Her phone was switched off, and no one knew where she was,” he said.
Police later visited the scene, questioned family members and local residents, and examined the property. According to relatives, local residents pointed investigators to footprints near a toilet tank and a damaged concrete slab, urging officers to inspect the area carefully. The victim’s relatives described her as a peaceful and harmless woman with no known disputes.
“She never harmed anyone. Everyone in the area knew her as an honest and gentle person,” a relative said.
The family also said the house had been burgled around seven months earlier, during which cash and valuables were stolen. They said they do not know whether that incident is connected to the woman’s death. Initially believing she had gone missing, relatives asked police to search nearby areas, fearing she may have been abducted or attacked. After several hours of searching, her body was recovered at around 11:30am.
The victim’s family has called for a full investigation and justice.
“We want exemplary punishment for those responsible. Innocent people should be able to live in peace. If someone can disappear and later be found dead, it raises serious concerns for everyone’s safety,” a family member said.
A police officier said he was informed of the fire at around 4:00am and immediately sent personnel to the scene. The fire was extinguished with the assistance of local residents and police. Authorities said the woman’s body was later recovered, and investigators are now examining whether the incident was a case of murder. Police said the investigation is ongoing and that they are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
