Husband Seeks Justice After Wife’s Rape in Kurigram

Kurigram, Bangladesh, 06|08|2026:- The husband of a rape survivor in Kurigram says he is seeking justice for his wife after she was raped by a man named Enamul Haque. He also says police refused to register his complaint and warned him against pursuing the case.

Shraban, the victim’s husband, said he was not at home when the incident took place. He had gone fishing and later received a phone call asking where he was.

“I was not at home on the day of the incident. I had gone fishing. Later, I received a phone call asking where I was. I said I was out fishing. After hearing what had happened, I returned home and learned that my wife had been raped by Enamul Haque,” Shraban said.

He said he wanted proper justice for his wife and initially brought the matter before people in his village.

“I wanted proper justice for my wife. I brought the matter before the people of my village, but he did not accept the decision. After that, I was threatened and intimidated,” he said.

Shraban said he then went to the police station to file a case but police did not accept his complaint.

“I went to the police station to file a case, but they did not take it. I had gone there again last night with a photocopy of my identity card that I had kept earlier,” he said.

According to Shraban, the officer-in-charge of the police station told him not to file the case.

“The OC told me, ‘Shraban, don’t file the case. Nothing will come of it.’ I asked him, ‘Sir, if filing a case will not help, then what should I do?’” he said.

Shraban further said the officer warned him not to return to the area and advised him to stay at a relative’s house.

“He told me not to go there anymore. He also told me not to organise a human chain and asked me to stay at a relative’s house,” Shraban said.

Shraban said he continues to seek justice for his wife and called on the authorities to take action in the case.

The allegations regarding the refusal to register the case and the warnings made by the police officer are based on Shraban’s account. A response from the police and the officer-in-charge has not been included in the statement provided.
