29 September, 2026 – Shariatpur : Four traditional brass idols of Hindu deities were allegedly stolen from a family temple at the residence of Hindu resident Ashok Kumar De in the Uttar Baluchar area of Shariatpur Municipality on Monday morning.
The stolen idols reportedly include Goddess Durga, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi, and another Hindu deity.
According to temple sources, the incident occurred when family members left the house in the morning for their respective work. Taking advantage of the house being empty, unidentified individuals allegedly entered the family temple and stole the idols.
Later in the afternoon, devotees entered the temple to perform religious rituals and discovered that the idols were missing. The matter was subsequently reported to police at Palong Model Police Station.
CCTV footage reportedly shows a suspicious young man wearing a red vest entering the temple. However, the stolen idols have not yet been recovered, and no suspect has reportedly been detained.
Members of the local Hindu community have expressed concern over the security of religious places and demanded the immediate recovery of the stolen idols and stronger security measures for Hindu places of worship.
