26 september, 2025 – Pirojpur : Police have arrested Sardar Kamruzzaman Chan, the prime accused in the alleged attack that left Bipul Mitra, head teacher of Jujkhola Sammilito Secondary School in Pirojpur Sadar Upazila, with fractures to both legs and his right arm.
On Friday morning, September 26, Abdullah Al Mamun filed a case with Pirojpur Sadar Police Station, following which police arrested Chan.
The arrested Sardar Kamruzzaman Chan is a former chairman of Shikdar Mallik Union Parishad and a former member of the convening committee of the district BNP.
According to reports, on Thursday afternoon, after attending an Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi event, Head Teacher Bipul Mitra was returning from the school to Pirojpur town on his motorcycle. When he reached an area known as Jharjhariatala on the Pirojpur–Nazirpur road, a group of 7–8 young men allegedly stopped him and began beating him indiscriminately with hammers.
As a result of the attack, both of his legs and his right arm were reportedly fractured. His accompanying assistant teacher, Asim Kumar, was also injured.
Local residents rescued the two injured men in critical condition and admitted them to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital. Bipul Mitra was later transferred to a hospital in Dhaka for advanced treatment.
According to complainant Abdullah Al Mamun, the attack was allegedly carried out by 10–12 young men following instructions from Chan and Ziaul Islam Khan. The incident is reportedly believed to be linked to a dispute over the formation of the school’s managing committee.
Confirming Chan’s arrest, Mohammad Robiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station, said that a case had been filed naming eight individuals as accused. He said the prime accused had been arrested and that police were attempting to arrest the remaining accused.
