30 September, 2026-Dhaka, Bangladesh: Photojournalist Badal Das (50), who works for the daily Nabachaitanya, has reportedly gone missing from Gulistan in central Dhaka. There has been no information about his whereabouts since Monday morning, September 28.
Family members and colleagues searched several possible locations until Tuesday afternoon but were unable to locate him. His sudden disappearance has reportedly caused concern among his family, colleagues and members of civil society.
Badal Das is the son of Basudev Das, a resident of the New Bazar area under Patuakhali Sadar Police Station. For professional reasons, he had been staying in a room at the Shishu Kalyan Parishad Building in Gulistan.
After he went missing, colleagues visited his room and reportedly found his mobile phone there. Later, an unidentified caller allegedly contacted them and claimed that Badal Das was in the custody of the Detective Branch (DB) of police.
However, his roommate and fellow photojournalist Fojit Sheikh Babu reportedly contacted Motijheel Police Station and the DB office several times. Authorities reportedly did not confirm that Badal Das had been detained, and no information about his whereabouts was obtained from those offices.
Attempts to contact the unidentified number again were unsuccessful, as the number was reportedly switched off.
Colleague Zakir Hossain expressed deep concern, saying that no reliable information about Badal Das had been received from any side. His family is reportedly spending the days in extreme anxiety.
Family members and human rights activists have called for urgent intervention by law enforcement agencies to locate the missing photojournalist and ensure his safe return. Anyone with information about Badal Das’s whereabouts has been requested to contact his roommate Fojit Sheikh Babu or the nearest police station.
