23 October, 2026 – Jhenaidah: A 40-year-old Hindu woman was allegedly assaulted inside her home in a village in Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila, Bangladesh. The attackers allegedly cut off her hair and rubbed chili powder over her body. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, and the victim filed a police case that night.
According to the victim, a man named Abdur Rashid came to her house and accused her of having an extramarital relationship with Anwar Hossain. Shortly afterward, Anwar’s wife, two daughters, and son allegedly arrived at the house. The five individuals allegedly grabbed the woman by her hair, forced her to the ground, cut off her hair, and applied chili powder to her body.
When the woman’s son awoke after hearing her screams and tried to rescue her, he was also allegedly assaulted. The woman subsequently received treatment from a local medical practitioner.
The victim alleged that the attack was connected to a dispute over the construction of a permanent kitchen and cowshed at her home. She said her family was financing the construction by selling their own land, but Anwar’s wife suspected that her husband’s money was being used. The victim further alleged that her family was targeted because they belong to the Hindu community.
The victim’s son and a local resident also alleged that the family members collectively attacked the woman and that Abdur Rashid was present and assisted in the assault.
According to local reports, Abdur Rashid reportedly introduces himself as a BNP leader, although local BNP activists stated that he holds no official position in the party. He could not be reached for comment.
Officer-in-Charge Md. Asaduzzaman of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station confirmed that a case had been filed against five individuals, including Anwar Hossain’s wife, two daughters, son, and another local man. Police said operations were underway to arrest the accused.
