21 September, 2026 – Bagherhat:- A Kali idol was vandalized at the Dakshinpara Sarbajanin Shri Shri Kali Temple in Kharasambal village of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila. According to temple authorities, several parts of the idol were damaged, and its head was also severed.
The incident came to light on Monday (September 21) afternoon when local residents went to the temple to prepare for the weekly worship ceremony. They found the idol lying damaged inside the temple. After the incident became known, temple authorities visited the site and confirmed the vandalism.
Sarvajit Haladar, general secretary of the Kharasambal Dakshinpara Sarbajanin Shri Shri Kali Temple, said Kali Puja is held at the temple every Tuesday. Around Monday afternoon, two members of his family went to the temple to prepare for the upcoming worship. Upon arriving, they found that the idol of Goddess Kali had been vandalized in several places and that its head had also been severed.
He said that after receiving the news, other temple officials quickly went to the site and found the damaged idol lying inside the temple. However, they could not determine who vandalized the idol or why the incident occurred.
The incident has caused concern among local members of the Hindu community. Local residents have demanded that those responsible be identified and brought to justice.
After being informed of the incident, the Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer and members of the local police visited the temple on Monday evening. However, as of Tuesday (September 22) afternoon, no one had been identified or detained in connection with the vandalism.
