Hindu Police Officer Kripesh Roy Faces Mob Gathering at Home Amid Blasphemy Allegations in Sunamganj – Claims Family Land Dispute Behind Conspiracy.

27 October, 2026 – Sunamganj, Bangladesh: A mob gathered outside the home of Kripesh Roy, a Hindu police officer, in Rajargaon village of Tahirpur Upazila, Sunamganj district, following allegations of religious insult. Police were present during the gathering, and additional personnel were deployed to the village to prevent further tensions.

Kripesh Roy, 40, is the son of Khitindra Chandra Roy and a resident of Rajargaon village under Badaghat Union. According to police, he is a member of the Bangladesh Police but is currently absent from his workplace.

On Monday, October 26, police took Kripesh into custody for questioning. Earlier that morning, he had filed a general diary (GD) at Tahirpur Police Station, seeking legal protection amid concerns about his safety.

Kripesh claimed that the allegations against him were connected to a longstanding family land dispute involving his cousin, Ponti Roy, who lives in the same village. He alleged that individuals were attempting to implicate him in a blasphemy case as part of the dispute.

According to Kripesh, he approached the police because he feared for his safety and believed that he was being deliberately targeted. His claims regarding the alleged conspiracy have not been independently verified.

A local neighbour said Kripesh had been living at home for approximately six months. The neighbour also reported that a recently created Facebook account using Kripesh’s name had sent friend requests to several people. Finding the account suspicious, the neighbour declined to accept the requests. It remains unclear who created or operated the account.

Faruk Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Tahirpur Police Station, confirmed that Kripesh had been taken into police custody for questioning. He said Kripesh had claimed that a group was conspiring to frame him and that the police were investigating the matter.

Police have deployed additional personnel in Rajargaon to maintain law and order and prevent the situation from escalating. The gathering reportedly created tension in the area, raising concerns about the possibility of further unrest.

The circumstances surrounding the blasphemy allegations, the suspicious Facebook account, and Kripesh’s claim that he was being framed remain unclear. The available information does not establish whether the allegations against him are substantiated or whether they are connected to the family land dispute.

The incident highlights concerns about mob gatherings triggered by religious allegations and the potential risks they pose to individual safety and community relations. Allegations of religious insult should be investigated through lawful procedures, and no individual should be subjected to intimidation or mob violence before the facts are established.
