Tk 50 Million and Eight Bhori of Gold Stolen from Narsingdi Flat; Factory Dream Shattered.

24 October, 2026 – Narsingdi :- Sukhan Chowdhury, 50, had sold his ancestral land in his village to fulfil his lifelong dream of establishing a dyeing factory. Negotiations to purchase a factory had reportedly been finalised. However, after returning from his village following Durga Puja celebrations, he discovered that Tk 50 million from the land sale and eight bhori of gold jewellery belonging to his wife had allegedly been stolen from his rented apartment in Narsingdi.

The theft took place in a flat on the second floor of a seven-storey building owned by Naresh Chandra Saha in the Sebasangha area of Narsingdi town. Sukhan has been living in the apartment with his wife and children for the past five years. He works at Eva Dyeing in Shekherchar, Narsingdi Sadar Upazila. His ancestral home is in Guhiala village under Barhatta Upazila of Netrokona district.

Sukhan filed a written complaint with Narsingdi Model Police Station on Friday night.

According to his wife, Purabi Pandit, the family locked their apartment and left for their village home around noon on Sunday to celebrate Durga Puja. They returned at approximately 8 pm on Friday but found that the apartment door would not open, even with their key. Their suspicions grew when the door remained shut even after they attempted to cut the lock.

Upon inspecting the rear side of the apartment, they discovered that the window grille had been cut. With assistance from local residents, Sukhan entered the flat through the window and opened the main door for the others.

Inside, they found furniture and clothes scattered throughout the rooms and the cupboard broken open. The Tk 50 million kept inside the cupboard, along with his wife’s eight bhori of gold jewellery, was missing.

Speaking to Prothom Alo, Sukhan said he had sold his ancestral land to raise the money needed to establish a dyeing factory and had already finalised negotiations to purchase one. His wife’s jewellery had also been kept in the cupboard.

He said the theft must have occurred at some point during the six days the family was away.

“The thieves have stolen my lifelong dream of establishing a dyeing factory,” Sukhan said.

M. R. Al Mamun, Officer-in-Charge of Narsingdi Model Police Station, told Prothom Alo that police had received a written complaint regarding the theft. Investigators are collecting CCTV footage from the area to identify those involved and bring them to justice.

No information about any arrests was provided in the report.
