01 September, 2026 – Munshiganj: Police recovered the body of Suman De (45) an employee at a gold jewelry shop in Hashail Bazar under Tongibari Upazila of Munshiganj, on Tuesday morning.
According to police and local sources, Suman’s body was found unclothed and lying on the floor inside Amit Sarkar Gobinda’s gold shop at around 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
Suman was the son of the late Narayan De of Paikpara area under Abdullahpur Union in Tongibari. He had reportedly been working at the jewelry shop for a long time.
Local sources said Suman regularly stayed overnight at the shop because commuting from his home every day was difficult. On Monday night, at around 9:00 p.m., shop owner Amit Sarkar reportedly left Suman at the shop and returned home.
At around 11:00 p.m., Suman reportedly spoke with his wife, Saraswati De, via video call.
On Tuesday morning, when the shop was not opened at the usual time, neighboring rice-shop owner Manju Ray called Suman’s mobile phone. After receiving no response, Manju went to the shop with several nearby traders.
They reportedly found one side of the shop’s shutter partially open. After entering the premises, they found Suman lying dead on the floor.
The local traders subsequently closed the shop and informed its owner, Amit Sarkar, and local Union Parishad Chairman Nuruzzaman Dewan.
After being informed through the Union Parishad chairman, police from Tongibari Police Station visited the scene and conducted an initial examination of the body.
The body was later sent to the morgue of Munshiganj General Hospital for autopsy.
Police said the exact cause and circumstances of Suman De’s death would be known after the autopsy report is received. At this stage, it has not been established whether the death was a homicide or resulted from another cause, and the investigation is ongoing.
