25, September 2026 – Sunamganj :- A serious allegation has emerged over a late-night attack, vandalism, looting, and an attempted arson at the home of a Hindu minority family in Gachtala Bazar under Dharmapasha Upazila of Sunamganj district.
According to the victim’s family, at around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday night, a group of alleged assailants launched a sudden attack on the residence of the late Monindra Chandra Das, located adjacent to Gachtala Bazar. The attackers allegedly broke doors, windows, and household furniture before looting valuable belongings from the house.
Family members, including Pushpa Das (65), Aradhana Das (40), Bonjon Das (30), Jibon Das (28), Sweety Das (20), and Sunuti Das (30), have reportedly been living in fear since the incident. The late-night attack created panic throughout the surrounding area.
The victims alleged that the attack may have been carried out due to a prior dispute or with the intention of seizing their property. Since the incident, the affected family has been seeking security and justice from the local administration and law enforcement authorities.
Complainant Aradhana Das alleged that the accused include Kuddus, Ferdous, and Shafik, sons of Ali Ahmad of Lengur village under Paikurati Union, along with Hadi Islam of Boroi Hati village, whom the family identified as an alleged instigator.
According to Aradhana Das, the attackers looted household goods worth approximately BDT 200,000, including rice, lentils, and gold jewelry, after damaging the house.
Regarding the land dispute, Aradhana Das stated that the original owners of the land were his grandfather Mohin Das and Behari Das. According to him, the current RS record lists the Government of Bangladesh as the owner, and in 2023 he obtained a favorable decision through a settlement with the government. He said that his family has been living on the property for a long time following the court’s ruling.
He further claimed that the court had imposed an injunction against Kuddus, Ferdous, and Shafik under Case No. 154/2024, Serial No. 85.
Attempts were reportedly made to contact the accused by phone for their comments, but no response could be obtained.
The family also alleged that at around 7:00 a.m. on Friday, the same group attacked again, injuring three people, including men and women, and allegedly setting fire to the family’s residence. According to the victims, neighbors rushed to the scene after hearing the screams of the injured—Aradhana Das, Pushpa Das, and Sunuti Das—prompting the alleged attackers to flee.
Following the incident, Sub-Inspector Mojibur Rahman of Dharmapasha Police Station, accompanied by other police personnel, visited the scene after receiving the report and inspected the area.
