27 October, 2021 – Bhaluka, Mymensingh, Bangladesh: Rabindra Rishi, a 43-year-old Hindu salon owner, was stabbed to death on Tuesday evening, October 27, in the Jamirdia area of Bhaluka Upazila, Mymensingh district. The killing reportedly followed a dispute over payment for a haircut.
The incident occurred near Noman Composite’s Muktijoddha Market in the Jamirdia area at approximately 7:00 p.m., according to the information provided.
The alleged attacker was identified as Saddam Hossain, 22, the son of Babul Mia and a resident of Jamirdia. Saddam reportedly fled after the killing and had not been arrested at the time of reporting.
Rabindra was the son of Ranjit Rishi, from Uttarpara in Dhobaura Upazila, Mymensingh. He lived in a rented house belonging to Kashem Mia near Tariff Munshi Mor in Jamirdia and operated a salon in the area.
According to local sources and eyewitness accounts, Saddam entered Rabindra’s salon on Tuesday evening and stabbed him. Attempting to escape, Rabindra reportedly ran to a shop owned by Saddam’s father. However, the attacker allegedly continued pursuing him and assaulted him there.
Rabindra then reportedly tried to take refuge in a nearby house. He was attacked again in the courtyard, where he sustained further stab wounds. He died at the scene from excessive blood loss.
Members of Rabindra’s family believe the killing may have been connected to an earlier dispute. They alleged that approximately three months ago, a local mediation meeting had been held following accusations that Saddam had harassed Rabindra’s daughter. The family suspects that the earlier incident may have contributed to the fatal attack, although this connection has not been independently established.
Rabindra’s wife, Suchitra, alleged that Saddam frequently demanded money from her husband to support his drug use. She also claimed that Saddam repeatedly received haircuts without paying. According to Suchitra, tensions escalated after Rabindra demanded payment for the outstanding bills and refused to cut Saddam’s hair further.
She further alleged that Saddam had previously threatened to kill her husband. She believes these disputes ultimately led to the fatal stabbing.
Following the incident, police from Bhaluka Model Police Station recovered Rabindra’s body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Zahidul Islam of Bhaluka Model Police Station said legal proceedings were underway. According to the information provided, police had not arrested Saddam or recovered the knife allegedly used in the killing at the time of reporting.
