Fear and tension have spread across parts of Bangladesh’s Chattogram district after an elderly Hindu man was reportedly attacked and seriously injured by a group of assailants in Satkania upazila.
The incident allegedly took place in the Farir Bill area of Ward No. 3 under Purangar Union, where local residents say a group of men attacked the victim in a violent confrontation that has deeply alarmed the surrounding community.
According to local sources, the attackers allegedly arrived together and assaulted the elderly man using sharp weapons. Witnesses claimed the victim suffered multiple serious injuries during the attack and collapsed at the scene.
Residents rushed to rescue him before he was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Local people familiar with the incident said doctors found several deep wounds on the victim’s body and described his condition as critical. He remains under medical care.
The attack has triggered fear and anger among local residents, many of whom described the victim as a peaceful member of the community who had lived in the area for many years without major disputes.
Several eyewitnesses alleged that the assault appeared coordinated and intentional rather than a sudden altercation.
The incident has also heightened anxiety among members of the local Hindu minority community, who say such violent attacks create widespread insecurity far beyond the immediate victims.
Community members expressed concern that repeated incidents involving organized groups and mob-style violence are increasing fear among vulnerable families in rural areas.
Human rights observers and local civil society voices have also expressed concern over the growing tendency of groups taking matters into their own hands through intimidation and violence.
They warned that mob attacks and collective assaults pose a serious challenge to public safety and the rule of law.
Local residents have called on Satkania police authorities to conduct a swift and impartial investigation into the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
Many in the area say they now fear that unless decisive action is taken, similar incidents could continue to spread panic and instability within local communities.
