10 October 2026 – SITAKUNDA, CHATTOGRAM:- Police recovered the body of a 22-year-old Hindu woman, Chandana Rani Shil, with her hands and feet tied from a field behind Teriyail High School in Baraiyadhala Union of Sitakunda Upazila, Chattogram District, on the morning of Friday, October 9, 2026. Police have detained three people, including her husband, for preliminary questioning in connection with the incident.
Chandana’s family identified her after photographs of the body circulated on social media. Later, when her parents, Tejendra Das and Alo Bala Das, went to the police station to see their daughter’s body, they broke down in grief. Their distress created an emotional and heartbreaking scene at the station.
Chandana was a resident of the South-West Syedpur area of Syedpur Union in Sitakunda. She had married Shimul Shil approximately one year ago.
According to Chandana’s family, she had been subjected to physical and mental abuse over demands for dowry since her marriage.
The family alleged that Chandana returned to her parental home the day before her body was discovered after experiencing abuse. Her husband reportedly contacted her and took her back, after which the family learned that her body had been recovered.
However, investigators have not yet established whether the alleged domestic abuse or a family dispute was connected to her death. The family’s allegations require further investigation.
According to preliminary police observations, Chandana may have been strangled. Her body was reportedly found with a scarf wrapped around her neck and her hands and feet tied.
Police have detained her husband, Shimul Shil, and two other individuals for preliminary questioning. Their detention does not establish their involvement in her death, and no final findings regarding responsibility have been reported.
The body was sent to the morgue at Chattogram Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Police said the cause and circumstances of death would become clearer after further investigation and examination of the autopsy report.
The case has raised serious concerns about the circumstances surrounding Chandana’s death, particularly in light of her family’s allegations of dowry-related abuse.
Investigators will need to establish how she died, whether anyone was responsible, and whether the alleged abuse before her death was connected to the incident.
