07, October 2026 – DINAJPUR, Bangladesh: The partially decomposed body of 17-year-old Prashanta Roy was recovered from a rice field in Senpara village, Mohammadpur, in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur district, on Wednesday, October 7.
Prashanta was the son of Ramesh Chandra Roy, a resident of Baniapara village in Mohammadpur Union under Birganj upazila.
According to preliminary information, a local woman named Sabitri went to the rice field at around 1:00 p.m. to cut grass for livestock when she discovered the body. She raised the alarm and informed nearby residents. Later, Jatindranath, a member of the local Union Parishad, notified Birganj Police Station.
Police arrived at the scene and recovered the body.
Prashanta’s father, Ramesh Chandra Roy, told the media that his son had suddenly gone missing from home about a week earlier. The family and relatives searched various places but were unable to locate him.
After receiving information from local residents on Wednesday afternoon, Ramesh went to the rice field in a neighbouring village and identified the body as that of his son.
The body was sent to the morgue at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Police initiated legal proceedings based on a General Diary (GD) concerning the incident.
The circumstances surrounding Prashanta’s death remain unclear. No information about suspects or a confirmed cause of death was provided in the available report.
