Chevening Scholarship Opens Applications for Fully Funded Master’s Degrees in the UK

Dhaka, 7 August 2026 — Applications have opened for the 2027–28 Chevening Scholarships, one of the United Kingdom’s most prestigious fully funded scholarship programmes, offering international students the opportunity to pursue a one-year master’s degree at leading UK universities.

The scholarship, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations, allows successful applicants to study at more than 150 universities across the United Kingdom. Applications will remain open until 6 October 2026.

The Chevening Scholarship covers the full cost of tuition fees, return airfare, monthly living expenses, accommodation and other essential study-related costs, making it one of the world’s most comprehensive government-funded scholarship programmes.

Bangladesh’s Participation

Each year, Bangladeshi professionals are selected for the programme. To date, nearly 400 Bangladeshis have completed higher education in the UK through the Chevening Scholarship.

For the 2025–26 academic year, 22 candidates from Bangladesh were awarded the scholarship.

Focus on Leadership

Established in 1983, the Chevening Scholarship aims to develop future global leaders. In addition to academic excellence, applicants are assessed on their leadership potential, professional achievements, networking abilities, community engagement and commitment to contributing to their home country’s development after completing their studies.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree from a recognised university and have at least two years of work experience. Eligible experience may include full-time employment, part-time work, internships and voluntary service, provided they meet the programme’s requirements.

Candidates must also satisfy the English language requirements of their chosen UK university, which may include providing an IELTS score or other accepted proof of language proficiency.

Application Process

Applications must be submitted online through the official Chevening website.

Applicants are required to submit a passport or national identity card, academic transcripts and certificates, and two English-language reference letters. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview at the British High Commission in Dhaka.

Successful applicants must later provide an unconditional offer of admission from an eligible UK university.

Two-Year Home Return Requirement

One of the programme’s key conditions is that scholars must return to their home country for at least two years after completing their studies in the UK.

According to the organisers, the requirement is intended to ensure that Chevening scholars use the knowledge, skills and international experience gained during their studies to contribute to the development of their own countries.
