A hindu woman was found brutally murdered inside her home in Bangladesh’s Bogura district late Wednesday night, sending shockwaves through the local community and raising fresh concerns over nighttime security in rural areas.
The incident occurred in the Mominhata Southpara area under Sukhanpukur Union of Gabtoli upazila.
The victim, identified as Rita Rani Majumdar (48), was the wife of Bidhan Chandra Majumdar. According to family sources, the couple’s son and daughter currently live in Dhaka for work and education purposes, while the husband and wife stayed alone at their residence in the village.
Police said the victim was discovered inside her room with severe injuries to the neck.According to her husband, the family had dinner together around 10 PM before going to sleep in separate rooms, as was their routine. Later at night, he reportedly woke up after hearing loud noises near the door.
Moments later, he heard groaning sounds coming from his wife’s room and rushed there. He claimed he found the room’s door open and discovered Rita Rani lying on the floor in a bloodied condition.He also noticed that the main entrance of the house was open.Neighbors gathered at the scene after hearing cries for help, and local police later arrived to recover the body.Authorities sent the body to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura for further examination.
Police officials said the motive behind the killing remains unclear, and no arrests had been confirmed immediately after the incident.However, some local residents suspect the attackers may have entered the house with the intention of robbery, claiming that the victim was believed to keep cash at home. Investigators have not officially confirmed that theory.
Law enforcement agencies say efforts are underway to identify those involved and uncover the circumstances behind the killing.
The murder has created fear and anxiety among local residents, many of whom expressed concern over the safety of families living alone in rural homes during nighttime hours.
