06 November 2026 – TANGAIL, Bangladesh — Police have arrested a 30-year-old Hindu youth, identified as Sujan Saha, from Manikganj over allegations that he posted derogatory and offensive comments about Allah and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on Facebook.
Saha was arrested from the Saturia area of Manikganj with the assistance of information technology, police said. He is the son of Satya Saha and a resident of Karmakar Para in Balla Union under Kalihati Upazila of Tangail district.
According to police and local sources, on November 2, a Facebook account identified as belonging to Sujan Saha allegedly posted comments containing highly offensive remarks about Islam and its religious figures in the comment section of a Facebook page named Basail Sangbad.
The comments reportedly sparked widespread anger in Balla Bazar and surrounding areas after they became public. In response, local Muslim worshippers and residents organised a protest procession in the Balla area, demanding exemplary punishment for the accused.
Upon receiving information about the demonstration, police from Kalihati Police Station arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
A case was subsequently filed at Kalihati Police Station, following which police launched an operation to apprehend the accused. Using information technology, investigators traced and arrested Saha from the Saturia area of Manikganj.
Kalihati Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kaiyum Khan Siddiqui said that, following interrogation, legal procedures were underway to produce the arrested individual before a court and send him to jail custody.
The OC also stated that the law and order situation in the area was currently normal.
