08 September, 2026 – Sylhet:- The death of Dr. Padmajit Chakraborty Pranto (31) at a residence in the Mirzajangal area of Sylhet city has raised questions, as he was found dead just one day after moving into the house.
On Tuesday afternoon, his body was handed over to his family following an autopsy at the morgue of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College. Relatives later took the body to their ancestral home in Moulvibazar.
Pranto was the son of Purnendra Chakraborty of Sabia village in Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila. He worked as a physician at Brahmanbaria Medical College.
Police recovered his body on Monday afternoon from a residence identified as “Swapnil-20,” where he was reportedly found hanging from a window grille. The young doctor, who had been married for around two years, died under unusual circumstances the day after moving into the new residence.
Police initially suspected that the death could have been a suicide. However, family members have expressed serious doubts about that possibility.
Relatives questioned how a physically fit and cheerful person could have died by hanging from a window grille. There have also been various rumors regarding possible marital discord between Pranto and his wife, who is also a physician working at a private hospital in Sylhet, but these claims have not been independently confirmed.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md. Manzurul Alam and Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khan Mohammad Mainul Zakir said the death initially appeared to be a case of suicide. However, they said no definitive conclusion could be reached before completion of the investigation and examination of the autopsy report.
Police also said that no complaint had been filed by the family in connection with the death.
