Panchagarh, Bangladesh — Hindu community leaders in Bangladesh have alleged that an AI-generated video circulating on social media has been used to spread misinformation and inflame communal tensions.
According to representatives of local Hindu organisations, the video falsely identifies a Hindu woman and portrays her in a misleading context. They claim the footage was digitally manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI) and has since spread widely across social media platforms.
Community leaders say the woman featured in the video has no connection to the claims being circulated online. They have accused unidentified individuals of exploiting her identity and image for political purposes, warning that such actions could further endanger members of the Hindu minority.
At a public gathering, Harish Chandra Roy, General Secretary of the Debiganj Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, and Ajay Kumar Roy, Chairman of the Boda Upazila Puja Celebration Committee, condemned what they described as the misuse of AI technology. They called for authorities to investigate those responsible and take legal action against anyone involved in creating or distributing fabricated content.
The woman at the centre of the controversy also addressed a press conference at the Panchagarh Press Club, where she denied the allegations circulating online. She said the video had severely damaged her personal reputation and appealed for protection and justice.
Local community organisations further alleged that similar incidents have been linked to online pages promoting communal division and political propaganda. They urged the government to strengthen measures against the misuse of AI-generated content and ensure the safety of minority communities.
The organisations also called for a thorough investigation, accountability for those responsible, and stronger safeguards against the spread of misinformation that could incite communal unrest.
