Police in Bangladesh’s Pirojpur district have recovered the body of a 60-year-old man one day after he was reported missing, in an incident that has sparked concern among local residents over deteriorating public safety.

The deceased, identified as Nirmal Haldar, also known locally as Nirmal Oja, was found dead on Tuesday morning near an abandoned house in Panaullahpur village under Swarupkathi Sadar Union in Nesarabad upazila.

According to police and family sources, the body was discovered beside a deserted structure belonging to a local schoolteacher, identified as Md. Shah Alam.

Nirmal Haldar was a resident of West Kuriana village in the Atghar-Kuriana Union of Nesarabad and was the son of Bipen Haldar.

Reported Missing the Night Before

Family members said concern began growing late Monday night after Nirmal Haldar could no longer be contacted.

His nephew, Dilip Haldar, told local media that relatives started searching for him around 11 PM after learning he had gone missing.

When they failed to locate him, the family filed a General Diary (GD) at Nesarabad Police Station.

The following morning, locals informed the family that a body had been spotted near a house in Panaullahpur village.

Gold Jewelry and Cash Missing?

Relatives said the victim regularly wore gold ornaments and often carried cash with him.

“My uncle had no known enemies,” said Dilip Haldar. “He used to wear two gold lockets weighing around one and a half bhori in total. He also usually carried some money with him.”

The remarks have fueled speculation that robbery may have been linked to the incident, although police have not yet confirmed any motive behind the death.

Authorities are expected to investigate whether valuables were missing at the time the body was recovered.

Rising Fear Over Public Safety

The incident has intensified concern among residents regarding law and order and the overall security situation in parts of Bangladesh.

Local people expressed fear over increasing reports of violent crimes, robberies, and attacks targeting ordinary citizens, particularly elderly individuals traveling alone at night.

Some residents also voiced anxiety within minority communities, saying incidents of insecurity have left many families feeling vulnerable.

Community members urged people to remain cautious while traveling and to avoid carrying large amounts of cash or expensive jewelry openly in public.

Investigation Underway

Police have yet to release a detailed statement regarding the cause of death or whether any suspects have been identified.

Investigators are reportedly examining:

  • whether the victim was attacked for robbery,
  • if he was killed elsewhere and the body later dumped,
  • and whether there were any personal or financial disputes connected to the incident.

The body has been sent for further examination as authorities continue their investigation into the mysterious death.

For now, residents of Nesarabad say the shocking discovery has deepened fear and uncertainty across the area.
