02 November 2026 – Satkhira:- Thieves allegedly broke into the historic Kali and Shani temples at Sarulia Bazar under Patkelghata Police Station in Satkhira district and stole cash from the temples’ donation boxes late Sunday night.
According to local sources, the incident took place sometime between 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Sunday. Members of an organised group of thieves reportedly entered the temple premises, broke the locks of the donation boxes and fled with the donated money.
Members of the temple committee discovered the broken donation boxes after arriving at the temple shortly after 8:00 pm and immediately informed local residents.
The incident has triggered anger and concern among members of the Hindu community and other local residents.
A member of the temple committee expressed deep resentment, stating that the incident was not merely an ordinary theft but also an attack on the religious sentiments of devotees. The committee demanded the prompt identification and arrest of those responsible.
Following the incident, police from Patkelghata Police Station visited the temple premises and inspected the scene.
Local residents also expressed concern over a series of thefts in the Sarulia area, including the recent theft of electrical wires from a school compound. They have called for increased police patrols at night and stronger security measures to protect religious institutions and local residents.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patkelghata Police Station confirmed that police had visited the scene and said the incident was being investigated. He assured that appropriate legal action would be taken based on the investigation.
