01 September, 2026 – Sherpur :- A 13-year-old Hindu schoolgirl, Shri Sandhya Rani, has been reported missing from her family home in the Maura area of Ward No. 1 of Nakla Municipality in Sherpur.
According to her family, Sandhya went missing at around 9:30 p.m. on August 31. She has not been located since.
Sandhya is the third of four children of Shri Paresh and Shri Kusuli. She is an eighth-grade student at the local Muktijoddha Smritibiddya Niketan High School.
Her father, Paresh, filed a General Diary (GD) at Nakla Police Station on the morning of September 1. The GD number is 20.
According to the GD, Sandhya has a fair complexion, is approximately 4 feet 2 inches tall and weighs around 38 kilograms. At the time she went missing, she was reportedly wearing a white shirt, black pajama trousers and a dark-blue scarf.
Family members said Sandhya had been studying at her desk at around 9:30 p.m. when she reportedly went outside because of the heat. When she did not return after some time, her mother began calling her by name.
After receiving no response, family members started searching for her in and around the area. They reportedly searched throughout the night at possible locations but could not find her. Her father subsequently went to the police station and filed the GD.
Sandhya’s parents were reportedly distressed by her disappearance and broke down in tears while speaking about their daughter. Nayan Chandra Shil, president of the Bangladesh National Hindu Youth Federation’s Nakla upazila unit, said they learned about the disappearance that night and visited Sandhya’s family along with her parents.
He said the family was advised to immediately inform law enforcement and file a GD. According to him, authorities are looking into whether the disappearance involved abduction or a relationship-related matter.
He also said that if Sandhya was abducted, law enforcement should use available technological means to locate and rescue her and bring those responsible to justice. He added that if she left voluntarily in connection with a relationship, authorities should still take steps to locate her because she is a minor.
The organization said it is providing the family with necessary guidance and support.
F.M. Rezaul Karim, headteacher of Muktijoddha Smritibiddya Niketan High School, described Sandhya as a regular eighth-grade student who is quiet by nature. He confirmed that she did not attend school on September 1.
Police sources said a GD had been filed regarding the disappearance of 13-year-old Sandhya Rani from her home. Messages have reportedly been sent to different police stations to assist in locating her, while local searches and inquiries are also underway.
