8 September, 2026 – Naogaon, Bangladesh: A Hindu gold trader, Alif Chandra Dutta (45), was allegedly hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Mahadebpur, Naogaon. His family members alleged that the attackers also took cash and gold he was carrying.
The incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, September 7, in a narrow lane near Alif’s home in the Dulalpara area of the upazila.
Alif, son of the late Sunil Chandra Dutta, lived in Dulalpara and operated a gold business in the Kansapatty area of Mahadebpur market.
According to relatives and local residents, Alif was returning home after closing his shop when several assailants allegedly followed him. They reportedly ambushed him in a narrow lane and repeatedly attacked him with sharp weapons before fleeing with his cash and gold.
Hearing his cries, neighbors reportedly came to his aid and found him seriously injured. He was initially taken to Mahadebpur Upazila Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he died at around 11:15 p.m. while undergoing treatment.
Alif’s younger brother, Prashanta Dutta, alleged that the attackers took approximately Tk 600,000 in cash and seven bhori of gold from him.
Mahadebpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Omar Faruk confirmed the incident and said the victim’s body was at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Arrangements were being made for an autopsy, while police were conducting operations to identify and apprehend those involved. Legal proceedings were also underway.
