27 September, 2026 – Panchagarh: An idol being prepared for the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja was allegedly vandalized at the Galandhi Chowrangi Shri Shri Durga Temple in Debiganj Upazila of Panchagarh. According to Debiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Musa Mia, the incident took place late Friday night at the temple in Debiduba Union. After receiving information about the incident, police visited the scene and inspected the area. Local resident Dujay Chandra Manik said that unidentified individuals allegedly entered the area under the cover of darkness and damaged the buffalo and peacock portions of the idol under construction. The incident caused concern among local residents after it became known. In connection with the incident, Radhanath Barman, general secretary of the Galandhi Chowrangi Shri Shri Durga Temple, filed a case with Debiganj Police Station. OC Musa Mia said that the priests and artisans had left the venue after completing work on the idol under construction. After midnight, taking advantage of the absence of anyone at the puja venue, unidentified individuals allegedly vandalized two parts of the idol. Police are investigating the incident, including reviewing CCTV footage from the temple premises, the OC said.
