24 September, 2026 – Mymensingh : Police have identified the body recovered from inside a plastic drum floating in a canal in Mymensingh Sadar. The deceased has been identified as Niranjan Chandra Sutradhar (50), son of Ramendra Chandra Sutradhar of Trishal upazila in Mymensingh district. He worked as a jewelry craftsman.
Police said Niranjan Chandra Sutradhar lived with his wife and children in a rented house in the Stadium area of Mymensingh city. Police confirmed his identity on Thursday (September 24) afternoon.
Earlier, on Wednesday (September 23) afternoon, police recovered the body from inside a plastic drum in the Begunbari sluice gate area of Mymensingh city. According to police and local sources, residents noticed a plastic drum floating in the canal on Wednesday morning and became suspicious. They informed the police, who went to the scene and recovered the drum. The body was subsequently found inside it.
After completing the autopsy, the body was handed over to the deceased’s relatives on Wednesday.
Police said there were marks of injuries caused by a sharp weapon on Niranjan Chandra Sutradhar’s head and chest. Police initially suspect that he was killed and that his body was then placed inside the drum and dumped into the canal.
Police are investigating the incident. Investigators are working to determine the motive for the killing and identify those responsible.
