24, September 2026 – Pirojpur: A headteacher in Nazipur, Pirojpur, has alleged that he received a phone call demanding Tk 2 million (20 lakh) in extortion money. He said the caller threatened to burn him and his family to death if the money was not paid within the specified deadline. The teacher filed a General Diary (GD) with Nazipur Police Station on Wednesday (September 23) over the incident.
Kishore Kumar Halder (54) is the son of Nirod Bihari Halder of Baibunia village under Matibhanga Union. He serves as the headteacher of Burikhali Government Primary School, School No. 95, in Shankharikathi Union.
According to the GD, a caller contacted him from a phone number at around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday and demanded Tk 2 million. The caller gave him until Friday (September 25) to pay the money and threatened to kill him and his family members if the demand was not met.
Kishore Kumar Halder said the caller told him that he and his family had been specifically targeted for an attack and instructed him to pay the money within the deadline to ensure their safety. Following the threat, he spent the night at another person’s house with his only daughter Supti Halder Micky (9), who is a fourth-grade student, due to concerns for their safety.
The teacher also said that his cousin, Sanjib Halder, was killed last year. He said receiving a fresh death threat against himself and his family after that incident has left him deeply frightened.
Nazipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Tarikul Islam confirmed that a GD had been filed regarding the phone call demanding Tk 2 million and the threat to kill the teacher and his family if the money was not paid. He said police are working to identify and locate the person who made the threat.
