23 September, 2026 – Manikganj: A 90-year-old woman was found with her throat slashed inside her home in Manikganj. She was rescued in critical condition and taken to Manikganj Medical College Hospital before being transferred to a hospital in Dhaka for advanced treatment. According to her family and the police’s preliminary assessment, assailants allegedly attacked her and stole her gold jewelry.
The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday (September 23) in the Purba Dashra area of Ward No. 5 under Manikganj Municipality.
The injured woman has been identified as Nonibala Chakraborty (90), wife of Debesh Chakraborty of the same area.
According to local residents, a man found Nonibala Chakraborty lying inside her house with her throat slashed on Wednesday morning. After hearing his cries for help, nearby residents rushed to the scene, and her son was informed. He later arrived and took his mother, who was covered in blood, to Manikganj Medical College Hospital.
Manikganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monir Hossain said that Nonibala Chakraborty lived alone in the house, while her sons reside in another house in the same ward.
He added that she usually wore several pieces of gold jewelry, but none were found on her after the incident. Based on the preliminary investigation, police suspect that unidentified assailants attacked her, slit her throat, and fled with her gold jewelry.
Police have launched an investigation to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.
