Banshkhali, Chattogram | Special Report | 03/08/2026
A prominent social worker and office-bearer of the Rishidham Board of Directors was reportedly seriously injured after being attacked by a group of men at Ramdash Munshi Bazar in Bangladesh’s Chattogram district.
The victim, Babu Tarit Kanti Guha, who serves as the board’s financial secretary, was allegedly assaulted on Wednesday night while he was at his gold business in the market.
According to local sources, a group of identified men allegedly entered the business premises and attacked Guha with sharp weapons. He sustained serious injuries during the assault and was subsequently taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for treatment.
His condition was reportedly critical at the time of the latest reports.
The incident has caused concern among residents of Banshkhali, an area where members of different religious communities have traditionally lived alongside one another.
News of the attack quickly spread through the locality, prompting condemnation from religious, social and community organisations. Local representatives described the incident as disturbing and called for those responsible to be identified and brought before the law.
Members of the local Sanatani community have also expressed concern over the safety of minority residents in the area. They urged law enforcement authorities to investigate the attack promptly and take appropriate legal action against anyone found responsible.
Human rights activists and community leaders have similarly called for increased protection for vulnerable communities and stressed that violent attacks should not be allowed to undermine communal harmony.
Authorities have yet to publicly provide detailed information about the motive behind the attack or the current status of any investigation. Residents are now awaiting further information as Guha continues to receive treatment at the hospital.
