09 July 2026 – Feni, Bangladesh: A hindu woman has alleged that she was attacked with a machete after trying to stop an elderly woman from cutting banana trees on government-leased land in the Kazirbag area of Feni Sadar Upazila. The victim has also accused the suspect of issuing death threats and has filed a written complaint with Feni Sadar Police Station.
According to the complaint, 44-year-old Shilpi Kuri leased a government-allotted vested property in the Kazirbag Ashrayan Project area, where she cultivated banana trees and other plants. She alleged that at around 11:00 a.m. on July 7, 2026, 78-year-old Fatema Akter, a resident of the same locality, forcibly entered the leased land, cut down banana trees, and attempted to take away the bananas.
The complaint states that when Shilpi Kuri tried to prevent her, Fatema Akter allegedly attacked her with a machete, causing injuries to various parts of her body. She was taken to Feni Sadar Hospital, where she received medical treatment. The complaint mentions that her hospital registration number is 25565.
According to the victim, the accused claimed during the incident that the entire plot of land belonged to her family and that Shilpi Kuri had no legal rights over it. She also allegedly warned the complainant not to enter the land in the future.
The complaint further alleges that although the matter was brought before local community leaders, the accused refused to participate in any mediation or settlement process. Instead, the victim claimed that she and her family members were threatened with death if they filed a complaint with the police. As a result, the family says they are living in fear and facing serious security concerns.
Shilpi Kuri said she initially delayed filing the complaint because she had been attempting to resolve the dispute through local mediation. However, citing concerns for her safety, she ultimately submitted a written complaint to Feni Sadar Police Station.
No statement from the accused, Fatema Akter, was available at the time of publication. Similarly, Feni Sadar Police Station had not issued an immediate response regarding the allegations.
The complainant has requested that the authorities take appropriate legal action based on her allegations.
