A brutal killing in Bangladesh’s Khulna district has left local residents shocked and terrified after unknown attackers allegedly broke into a home by cutting through its wall and murdered a village doctor during the night.

The incident took place on 18 May 2026 in Ward No. 3 of Maheshwaripur Union under Koyra upazila.

The victim, Bhobotosh Mridha (37), was known in the area as a rural healthcare provider and pharmacy owner at Gilabari Bazar. Villagers say he was widely respected for treating poor patients and helping local people with basic medical care.

According to family members and local residents, the attackers entered the house through the back side after allegedly cutting through part of the wall in what many believe was a planned attack.Inside the house, Bhobotosh Mridha was reportedly attacked with sharp weapons. His wife was also injured while trying to save him and suffered serious wounds to her leg. Neighbors said they rushed toward the house after hearing screams late at night, but the attackers had already fled the scene. The injured were taken for treatment immediately. However, doctors declared Bhobotosh Mridha dead.

The horrifying nature of the killing has triggered grief, anger, and fear throughout the area.Residents described the victim as a peaceful and helpful man who regularly provided treatment to poor villagers, often charging little or no money. Many said they could not understand why someone known for helping people would be targeted in such a violent manner.

“This is unimaginable,” one resident said. “He spent his life helping poor people. Now he has been murdered inside his own home.”The incident has also raised renewed concerns over law and order and nighttime security in rural areas. Local people said the method used by the attackers — allegedly cutting through the wall to enter the house — showed signs of planning and determination.Police have not yet publicly confirmed the motive behind the killing. Investigators are reportedly examining whether the attack was connected to robbery, personal disputes, or other possible motives.

Meanwhile, local residents and community members are demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible and strict punishment under the law.As mourning spreads through Maheshwaripur and surrounding villages, many residents say fear and insecurity are growing, especially among families living in isolated rural homes.
