Kali Temple Vandalised in Northern Bangladesh, Community Expresses Concern

Lalmonirhat, 17 December 2025 VOM:- An idol at a Hindu temple in northern Bangladesh has been vandalised, prompting concern among local residents and members of the Hindu community.

The incident took place at a public Kali temple in the Gandhar Para area of Gorol Union, under Kaliganj upazila in Lalmonirhat district, according to local sources. It is believed to have occurred at around 9:00 am on Tuesday, 16 December 2025.

Devotees who arrived at the temple later in the morning found that the idol of Goddess Kali had been damaged, with multiple parts broken. The discovery led to heightened tension in the area, as members of the local Hindu community gathered at the site to protest the incident.

Community leaders said the act had caused deep distress, describing it as an attack on religious sentiments. Some expressed fears that such incidents contribute to a growing sense of insecurity among minority communities.

“This is not just damage to a statue,” a local representative said. “It affects our sense of safety and our right to practise our faith freely.”

Residents have called on the authorities to conduct a full investigation and to identify those responsible. They have also urged law enforcement agencies to strengthen security at religious sites to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Local officials have not yet released details about any suspects or arrests. An investigation is understood to be under way.
