Truck Driver Sajib Chandra Debnath Killed in Chattogram; Minority Leaders Condemn Rising Violence.

Chattogram, 10 October 2025 : A truck driver was brutally killed by another driver following a violent clash over vehicle queue positioning in the Sadarghat area of Chattogram city. The incident took place around 8:00 PM on Friday in front of the Jetty Gate under Sadarghat Police Station.

The deceased has been identified as Sajib Chandra Nath (30), a resident of Temohoni area in Mirsharai upazila of Chattogram district. He was the son of Prafulla Chandra Nath. The alleged perpetrator is Md. Yusuf Hossain Bijoy (24), a fellow driver.

According to eyewitnesses, both drivers were waiting to transport scrap metal for GPH Steel under the banner of Hakkani Transport. An argument broke out between Sajib and Yusuf regarding their position in the vehicle queue. The verbal dispute quickly escalated into a physical altercation, during which Yusuf stabbed Sajib in the chest with a knife he was carrying.

Sajib was critically injured and rushed to a hospital by fellow drivers, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

Sadarghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rahim confirmed the incident, stating:

“Police launched an immediate operation and arrested Yusuf Hossain Bijoy. The knife used in the attack was also recovered.”

Meanwhile, minority community leaders have expressed grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the country. They claimed that members of minority communities are facing increasing violence and persecution by criminals. Despite numerous incidents, the government and law enforcement authorities have allegedly failed to take effective measures to protect minority rights and ensure their safety.

In response to the Chattogram incident, the minority leaders have demanded exemplary punishment for all those involved in the killing of Sajib Chandra Nath.
