31 October, 2026 – November:- A Hindu family in Wazirpur Upazila of Barishal has accused the authorities of Alhaj B.N. Khan Degree College and several individuals associated with the institution of attempting to occupy their ancestral land and a pond, allegedly using the college’s name. The family has also alleged intimidation and threats.
Demanding a fair investigation and the recovery of their ancestral property, members of the affected family held a press conference at the Barishal Press Club on Saturday afternoon.
In a written statement on behalf of the family, Sanjay Chandra Das said that 29 decimals of land and a pond in Ward No. 4 of Wazirpur Municipality had been inherited from his grandfather, Narayan Chandra Das, and remained in the family’s possession since 1959.
Sanjay alleged that several individuals, including college founder Mohammad Aziz Khan and Mohammad Habib Khan, along with Governing Body President Mohammad Nayan Mia, member Md. Rafiqul Islam, Advocate Md. Amir Hossain Mia and seven to eight unidentified people, had recently attempted to take possession of the property in the name of the college.
He said that at around 3:00 pm on October 14, people from the opposing side began cleaning the pond on the disputed land. When the family members objected, his uncle Amal Chandra Das and other relatives were allegedly threatened.
Sanjay said they had submitted a written complaint to Wazirpur Police Station. Earlier, on October 23, 2024, the family had also filed a General Diary (GD) over the land dispute.
Alleged Irregularities in Land Records
Sanjay further alleged that, in collusion with an official at the Barishal Regional Settlement Office, the family’s land had been removed from the land records and incorporated into the property records of B.N. Khan Degree College.
According to him, the family was not served any notice during the final verification stage following the objection and appeal proceedings. He claimed that the 29 decimals of land were removed from their records without their knowledge and included in Khatian No. 1542, alongside the college’s other properties.
He said that a miscellaneous case, numbered 1947/2026, is currently pending at the Barishal Regional Settlement Office, with the next hearing scheduled for November 11. Another case, numbered 07/2026 under Section 150, is pending at the Wazirpur Upazila Land Office.
The family also filed Civil Suit No. 14/2020 before the Assistant Judge’s Court in Wazirpur in 2020, seeking a permanent injunction to protect their ownership and possession of the property. The next date for recording testimony in the case is scheduled for November 19.
Additionally, Sanjay said that the family had filed Writ Petition No. 4892/2026 before the High Court, following which the court issued a rule.
The disputed property is located in Wazirpur Mouza and measures 29 decimals. Its land-record details include JL No. 92, SA Khatian Nos. 788 and 789, SA Dag No. 134, BS Khatian No. 1355 and BS Dag No. 1963.
Sanjay said the family had submitted written complaints to the Deputy Commissioner’s office and other relevant authorities, seeking the recovery of their land, protection for family members and a fair investigation.
College Authorities Deny Intimidation Allegations
Responding to the allegations, B.N. Khan College Principal Rafiqul Islam denied that anyone had threatened or intimidated the family over the land dispute.
“According to the BS land record, the college authorities are the owners of this land. The college is paying the land tax accordingly,” he said.
He added that a case concerning the property was already pending before the court and that the college authorities would take further steps in accordance with the court’s verdict.
Barishal Deputy Commissioner Md. Mamun Khandaker said the allegations would be properly investigated and appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.
